I would like to say that it is an honor and a blessing to share my story on behalf of the Barbara Bush Foundation. I have learned that attaining higher education matters in so many ways. Having children at an early age, finishing high school and planning what to major in college was the last thing on my mind. Instead, my focus was to care for and raise my kids properly.
As my kids grew older, I started focusing on me and started thinking about the importance of good education. I realized that I had to do something with my life. I had no proper education and was working odd jobs. My level of education was preventing me from meeting my financial goals and barring me from obtaining good paying jobs.
One day, I stumbled upon some information about educational training for school in my workplace. I saw this as an opportunity. Through my excitement, I inquired and enrolled in an adult education program that was supported by the Barbara Bush Foundation. This is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life.

Not only have I learned new concepts and worldviews, I’ve also acquired skills in reading, writing, and problem solving. My journey hasn’t been easy but I’ve worked hard to better myself so I can support my children and family better. Since my journey back in education began, my organizational skills, communication skills, and technological skills have improved tremendously and made me an efficient and more valuable person in my workplace. Today, I can help my kids with their school work with confidence. At work, my colleagues appreciate and value me more because of my newly acquired skills.
I’ve never thought I’d make it this far, but with the support of my family and kind colleagues, I can go further and move to the next level of my education: a college degree. I worked hard and prayed to make a change in my life and now I see a brighter future ahead of me and my family. Thanks to all the excellent support and resources available to me, soon it will be my turn to step up and be an inspiration to someone else. Thank you!
