Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy Appoints New Senior Vice President of Strategic Alliances

Tallahassee, Fla. (Jan. 23, 2014) — The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy announces the appointment of Kelly Layman as Senior Vice President of Strategic Alliances. In this role she will be coordinating the 25th anniversary initiatives of the Barbara Bush Foundation. Beginning in March 2014, the national non-profit organization commences a year’s worth of special events to commemorate this milestone.

She owned a public relations and legislative policy consulting firm in Palm Beach from 2001-2007, where she was named one of 8 “Star Turks: The Next Generation of Business Leaders” by the Palm Beach Daily News. The firm’s team also received the “Outstanding Public Service” Award from Northwood University at its annual event honoring entrepreneurs throughout Southeast Florida. She more recently served as Chief of Staff at two of the largest state agencies, and has served in all three branches of Florida government. At times during the past 15 years, she held key positions at the Florida Supreme Court, Florida Senate, and with the Board of Governors of the State University System.

Kelly began her career as a section editor at The Gainesville Sun and later the Tallahassee Democrat after earning her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida, where she was awarded the undergraduate-level Red Newton Fellowship for media law research. Since exiting state government in 2012, Kelly has been a consulting partner and shareholder at MedAffinity.com – this is a successful health care technology start-up, now in its second stage of growth serving physician clients in the U.S. and Panama.
