KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine – The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy will host the Maine Celebration of Reading on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 6:30 p.m. at the Vinegar Hill Music Theatre in Arundel, Maine.

Since 2002, the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and members of the Bush family have joined together with community leaders, bestselling authors and valued partners to celebrate the power of literacy. Funds raised from the Celebration events support nationwide family literacy programs of the Barbara Bush Foundation, including programs in Maine. Over the past 22 years, the Foundation has provided $6.3 million in support of more than 370 family literacy programs throughout the state.

This year’s special event will celebrate the legacy of Barbara Bush, and will feature an outstanding lineup of best-selling guest authors: Christopher Buckley, Brad Meltzer, Cokie Roberts and Ellie LeBlond Sosa.

Christopher Buckley is a best-selling novelist, essayist, humorist, critic, magazine editor, memoirist and former chief speechwriter for George H.W. Bush. His works include “Thank You for Smoking,” which was adapted in 2005 as a major motion picture, and his 2018 release, “The Judge Hunter.” Buckley is the recipient of the Thurber Prize for American Humor and the Washington Irving Medal for Literary Excellence.

Brad Meltzer is the No. 1 New York Times best-selling author of “The Inner Circle,” “The Book of Fate” and nine other thrillers including his latest book, “The Escape Artist,” which debuted at No. 1 on the best-seller list. In addition to his fiction, Brad is among the few authors to ever have books on the best-seller list for nonfiction. Brad, who was recently named by the Hollywood Reporter as one of Hollywood’s 25 Most Powerful Authors, is also the host of “Brad Meltzer’s Lost History” on H2 and “Brad Meltzer’s Decoded” on the History Channel.

Cokie Roberts is a political commentator for ABC News and NPR. In her more than 40 years in broadcasting, she has won countless awards, including three Emmys. Along with her reporting, Roberts has written six New York Times best-sellers, most dealing with the roles of women in U.S. history. In addition to her appearances on the airwaves, Roberts, along with her husband, Steven V. Roberts, writes a weekly column syndicated in newspapers around the country by Universal U Click. In 2008, the Library of Congress named her a “Living Legend.”

Ellie LeBlond Sosa is the co-author of “George and Barbara Bush: A Great American Love Story,” a book about her grandparents’ incredible legacy of love. Ellie is a certified holistic health counselor and teaches fitness in Boston, as well as on retreats for women around the world. She met her husband of four years at her grandparents’ home in Kennebunkport, and was married there in 2014. Her grandparents’ love story is one that she looks up to and strives to emulate in her own life.
