Since 2002, the Barbara Bush Foundation and members of the Bush family have joined forces with community leaders, bestselling authors and valued partners to celebrate the power of literacy through the annual Celebration of Reading events.

Christopher Buckley

Christopher Buckley is a novelist, essayist, humorist, critic, magazine editor and memoirist. His books have been translated into 16 foreign languages. He worked as a merchant seaman and a White House speechwriter. He has written for many newspapers and magazines and has lectured in over 70 cities around the world. He was awarded the Thurber Prize for American Humor and the Washington Irving Medal for Literary Excellence.

 

Brad Meltzer

Brad Meltzer is the No. 1 New York Times best-selling author of The Inner Circle, The Book of Fate, and nine other best-selling thrillers. His newest book, The Escape Artist, debuted at No. 1 on the best-seller list. In addition to his fiction, Brad is one of the only authors to ever have books on the best-seller list for nonfiction. He’s written 14 children’s books as part of his “I Am” series, which was written for his own children, to give them better heroes to look up to. The Hollywood Reporter recently named Brad on their list of Hollywood’s 25 Most Powerful Authors. His books have spent over a year on the best-seller lists, and have been translated into over 25 languages, from Hebrew to Bulgarian. Brad is also the host of Brad Meltzer’s Lost History on H2 and Brad Meltzer’s Decoded on the History Channel, and is a co-creator on the TV show, Jack & Bobby. Brad is also responsible for helping find the missing 9/11 flag that the firefighters raised at Ground Zero, making national news on the 15th anniversary of 9/11.

 

Cokie Roberts

Cokie Roberts is a political commentator for ABC News and NPR. In her more than 40 years in broadcasting, she has won countless awards, including three Emmys. She has been inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame, and was cited by the American Women in Radio and Television as one of the 50 greatest women in the history of broadcasting. Along with her reporting, Roberts has written six New York Times best-sellers, most dealing with the roles of women in U.S. history. In addition to her appearances on the airwaves, Roberts, along with her husband, Steven V. Roberts, writes a weekly column syndicated in newspapers around the country by Universal U Click. In 2008, the Library of Congress named her a “Living Legend.”

 

Ellie LeBlond Sosa

Ellie LeBlond Sosa is the co-author of George and Barbara Bush: A Great American Love Story, a book about her grandparents’ incredible legacy of love. Ellie lives in Boston, where she works for a healthcare nonprofit. Her passion lies in health and wellness. She is a certified holistic health counselor and teaches fitness in Boston as well as on retreats for women around the world. Ellie met her husband of four years at her grandparents’ home in Kennebunkport, Maine, and was married there in 2014. Her grandparents’ love story is one that she looks up to and strives to emulate in her own life.
